The story behind forecastly

Built by someone who knows what profitable but broke feels like.

forecastly exists because too many brilliant small business owners make money — and still feel broke. Not because they're bad with numbers. Because nobody ever handed them a calm, simple way to see their cash story.

Magdalena Mahdy, founder of ProfitMIND and forecastly
Hi, I'm Magdalena

Thirteen years of running businesses. Nearly a decade of mentoring. One tool I wish I'd had from the start.

I fell in love with running businesses when I started my very first one in 2013 — a wedding photography business. Very seasonal, unpredictable, and profitable on paper but constantly tight in reality. I was Profitable But Broke. Making money, but unable to sleep because the cash just wasn't there. I vividly remember looking at my tax bill, seeing the profit figure I supposedly made and thinking, "Where has all that money gone?"

That's when I learned the difference between profit and cash, the hard way. And cashflow forecasting became the ONE thing that truly moved the needle for me. Not a fancy system — just a clunky spreadsheet that helped me see patterns, understand seasonality, and stay one step ahead. It helped me breathe again.

In 2017, I began freelancing as a business mentor at a university — running workshops and doing 1:1 mentoring across every business topic imaginable. And I spent nearly a decade watching small business owners hit the same walls I did — being Profitable But Broke — having the same confusions about their numbers and the same anxieties I once had. Not because they lack intelligence or drive, but because nobody ever showed them how to read their numbers without fear.

So, I decided to do something about it and went back to school in 2023 and retrained as a bookkeeper and tax accountant. I wanted the technical foundations to match the strategic work I'd been doing for years. That's how ProfitMIND was born. As I started working with my bookkeeping clients, I quickly saw firsthand how disconnected the backward-looking bookkeeping world is from the forward-looking decisions business owners actually need to make. It is like driving a car by only ever looking into the rear-view mirror.

That gap — between knowing what happened and knowing what's coming — is where businesses often get stuck. And in 2026, I decided to do something about it.

forecastly is that something. It's the tool I wish I'd had thirteen years ago — built for the business owner I was, and the hundreds of business owners I've mentored since. It is the tool where you get to take control of your business, looking ahead and owning your future.

The method behind the tool

Follow The Cash™ — four calm moves.

forecastly is Part 3 of the Follow The Cash™ method, the framework behind everything we do at ProfitMIND. Here's the whole journey, so you can see where this tool fits.

Stop Hiding

What are you avoiding, and what's it costing you? Face your numbers without shame. Reframe them as a tool, not a verdict. And definitely not a judgement.

Start Knowing

Why doesn't profit equal cash? What are the numbers really saying? Learn to read your financial picture in plain English — detective lessons, not accounting lectures.

Take Control

How do you forecast without guessing? How do you make decisions with evidence? Build a 12-month cash map and turn it into a decision-making tool.

This is forecastly

Own Your Future

How do you make it stick and plan for growth? Build financial rhythms, resilience and a business that supports your life — not one that quietly drains it.

Why this, why now

The gap nobody was filling.

After nearly a decade of mentoring small business owners through the same financial walls, I knew the problem wasn't knowledge — it was access. Most forecasting tools are built for accountants. Spreadsheets are built for people who already understand spreadsheets. And the gap between "I should probably look at my numbers" and "I actually understand what's coming" is where businesses stall — or worse, go under.

forecastly sits in that gap. Not a spreadsheet. Not just a dashboard. A guided, plain-English companion that asks you the right questions, turns your answers into a clear plan, and stays with you all year.

It's not the whole Follow The Cash™ method in software form — it's Part 3, the Take Control step. But it's the part most business owners never get to, because they're stuck in Stop Hiding — the vicious avoidance cycle — or Start Knowing — just learning passively or getting stuck in the compliance rhythm. forecastly gives them a way forward.

What's next

forecastly is just the beginning.

The vision doesn't stop here. The Follow The Cash™ method will expand — group coaching programmes, deeper advisory, a book for small business owners who are tired of guessing. forecastly is the tool. The method is the system. And this is just chapter one.
